Bucks on Ice

We were searching for an "outcross" buck for our sweet Lola and came across Cox. We are hoping to finally retain a buck to keep Lola's udder in the herd. Cox's dam, GCH Wood Bridge Farm 22K Gold is the 2021 ADGA National Champion. Cox was 3rd place Get of sire at the 2023 ADGA Nationals. He is sire of the 2023 ADGA National Convention Spotlight Sale Buckling, Agape's Prize Gold Frenchman.

Strong LA Scores from his Dam, Sire & Sire's Dam are why we settled on Cox. 22K Gold has a 37 in Fore-Udder-Attachment. RainyDay has a 39 in Fore-Udder-Attachment. Cox has 4 daughters w/one appraisal each, but averageing 34 in FUA. Cox's Type Evaluation indicates his daughters score higher in Strength than Dairyness. This should help balance our more dairy girls. Cox is also polled, which would be nice to work into our herd.

It should be abundantly obvious why we added Watership Down to our tank. His dam, Dust Bunny is just incredible. She checks the boxes in so many catagories for us. She has E's in Shoulder Assembly, Front Legs, Back and Rump with a FS91 (EEEE) @ 06-05. She is an Elite Doe who has earned her Supeior Genetics & Permanent Championship. She has earned in Volume, Protien, Butterfat & has 3 Advanced Registry daughters. All of these accompishment are why we purchased 10 straws.

Watership Down is also a bit of an outcross for our herd. While he has similar lines to sevevral of our bucks, he is just a bit different. This will allow us to breed to most of our does with a less than 4% Kintrack COI. He does have a higher COI than we normally prefer, but it he will work just fine in or herd. Very excited about using him in 2026. Love that he is moonspotted and might have the Brown Gene. We used to have quite a few does with the Brown Gene, we currently just have Lola. Love to see a nice shinny coat on a brown goat, such a good indicator of health in a herd.

We purchased Ziggzag because of his Linear Appraisal History. He has excellent Linear & Structural scores. He recieved a FS90 (VEE ) @ 06-09 in 2017. He also recieved E's E in Head, Shoulder Assembley and Rear Legs in 2017. He was appraised in 2016 & 2013. Cabochon Farms says he is consistanly passing a very nice medial to his daughters. His litermate sister scores alright but seem to be weak in Rump, rump is not Ziggzag's strongest trait either. We plan on breeding him to our does that are fairly strong in rump so we are not overly concerned.

Ziggzag is definantely milky. He is ranked 38th in Milk PTA with a 110. He has made the Elite list in 2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024. NC PromisedLand SIA Zesta, his dam, never went on test. Her littermate sisters, Zena & Zephyr, both made the ADGA Elite Doe list. His dam's dam, Zippy is ranked 5th in PTI21: 457. His Sire's Dam, Fleur, was very accomplished in the show ring. Earning 6 Best Udder Awards, 3 Grand Champions & 4 Reserve Champions.

We chose Lotus for his Linear Appraisal, Permanent Championship & low 10 Generation Kintracks Inbreeding percentage of 4.359%. We look for confimationally correct bucks to integrate into our herd. Lotus has E's in Front Legs & Back Legs. We are super keen on having correct legs. Lotus's dam, Corydalis, has 5 Linear Appraisals. She has earned E's in the following structural catagories; Head, Shoulder Assembly, Rear Legs & Udder Texture. She also earned her Superior Genetics & Permanent Championship.

Looking forward to increasing our genectic diverity in the herd. Lotus's lines are a bit of an outcross for our herd, with one exception. Following our simple breeding plan of trying to breed a goat like our Goldie, Mystic Acres Snapdragon caught my attention with Lotus. Snapdragon is Goldie's DDS. This is the last of hers I was wanting to encorperate into our program. Really excited.

We purchased Voyager straws based on his dam's Udder Trifecta. Ophelia has scored an astounding 50 in Fore Udder Attachment, 40 in Rear Udder Height & 45 in Rear Udder Arch. This blows away the 40/40/40 that most try to attain over years of careful breeding. Voyager's Sire, Noble Icon has a Type Eval with a 38.5 in Fore Udder Attachment. Icon's Dam, Countnblessns has a 38 in Fore Udder Attachment. Voyager is linebred Countnblessns. Our hope is that we can continue to improve Fore Udder Attachment in our herd. I do not see any Linear Appraisal data on Ophelia's kids as of Feb 2026. She has two daughters that have Type Evals but there is no data. We do not know if she is passing on her Fore Udder Attachment. This might be an expensive toss of the dice.

We are a bit concerned about loosing milkiness in this breeding. Voyager is heavy on the Show Lines and lacking a Milk Production data. He will likely sit in the tank till I freshen & appraise my 2025 junior does. At $100 a straw I want to make sure I am using him to our herds best advantage. Voyager & Watership Down have similar show lines, but Watership's dam is an Elite Milker. Ophelia (Dam) & Saturn (DD) do have PTI Indexes. Saturn's is what we look for in an outside Buck Prospect, whick is over a 100. Voyager's COI is a bit higher than we prefer, but crossed on our herd the kids will be under our 4% COI limit.

Caurso's dam & sire are why we purchased 5 straws. Opera has five Linear Appraisals all 90 or 91! She has also recieved E's in Head, Shoulder Assembly, Rear Legs & Back. Cernunnos has been appraised twice once at 4 and then again at 5 yers old. He recived E's in Head, Rear Legs & Back. He aslo recieved a 40 in Rump.

Caruso is of similar lines to Matteo, but has a much lower Kintraks Inbreeding COI. Caruso has 3 full sisters, all earning their Superior Genectics & wins in the show ring.

Matteo does not have a Type Evaluation yet as he only has 2 daughters aprraised so far. So we have no idea yet what he is passing on to his girls. He is top & bottom Proctor Hill Farm Go Daddy & Old Moutnian Farm Cernunnos. His dam has really strong LA scores. Not only does she have a FS92 (EEEE), she also has four E's in structural catagories.

Matteo's Dam's Linear Apprials Scores are the main reason we purchased 5 straws. Cassiopeia has a 38 in Fore Udder & we are looking to increase this in our herd. She has a 39 in Rear Udder Height & recieved E's in Front Legs, Rear Legs, Back & Rump. As a herd, we need improvement in Front Legs, Feet & Shoulder Assembley. We wil be using Matteo hoping to see impovemnets some of these areas.

Why did we purchase 2ZDay? Simply put he is an Old Mountian Farm buck. I will likely never have the opportunity to own an Old Mountian Farm buck. He also is a finished Champion, and has a strong Linear Appraisal with E's in Head, Front Legs & Rear Legs. To top it off he is polled with Blue Eyes.

2ZDay's Dam, Fat Tuesday, is a seriouly nice goat. She has a FS91 (EEEE) @ 06-06. She also scored E's in Back, Rump, Front & Rear Legs. Fat Tuesday's littermate sister, SGCH Old Mountain Farm Merriment, is the 2017 ADGA National Champion & Best Udder. Merriment is dam to GCH Agape's Prize French Quarter. Fat Tuesday's other littermate sister, Anahidm, earned her Superior Genetics. So those littermate sisters have some pretty nice genetics! Our own Gardenviewfarm CC Rapha has great Old Mountian lines and we just love the results we are achieving in our herd. We wanted to add a buck to compliment Rapha's Old Mountian Farm lines. We also will be adding a few new Promisedland lines with 2ZDay. We think 2ZDay will work nicely in our herd.

Debonair was one of the first bucks we purchased. He has all the elegance most of my does are lacking. The reason we purchased Debonair is his dam, Tansy. She has 7 GCH & 7 Best of Breed. As of Dec 2024, she is ranked 42nd in PTI21. Tansy is in the top 50 for all time PTI21, that is quite an acomplishment. She has a Linear Appraisal of FS90 (EEEE) @ 03-01. Tansy also scored a 39 in Rear Udder Arch and E's in Back & Rump. His daughter, Rosemary, was 1st place 3 year old at the ADGA National Show (out of 70+ Does) and won several production awards. Littermater sister, Wee3Farms HC Impatiants, was a 2018 ADGA Spotlight Sale doeling.

Our Buck, Pholia Farms JM Chocolate Chip, was closely related to Debonair. We were hoping to do some line breeding with Chip's girls & our Caprinos lined girls. Debonair's DDS is Caprinos RI Copper. Pholia Farm KM Riot (DDSS) has a full sister Harriet, who had Carpal Hyperextension. Debonaire also has several direct relatives of Rosasharn's SS Aquarius (Had CH) in his 5 Generation Pedigree. Once there is a CH Test we will be using Debonair in our herd.
